Fall is the perfect time for enjoying a picnic for two. The warm colors of the changing leaves provide a beautiful backdrop to a romantic picnic. Plan on a scenic drive through the country to find your location, or check out nature centers or your local park for a nature filled retreat. Planning a picnic does not need to be time consuming or expensive.
There are numerous options for packing your picnic essentials, from the traditional picnic baskets, to canvas totes with handles, to wire baskets. Choose one that is strong enough to hold your plates and heavier essentials. Layer your heavier items first and use your linens to protect your breakables.
What to pack?
Soft goods: Tablecloth and napkins; large blanket, quilt, or mat; pillows
Hard goods: Dinnerware; glassware; silverware; cooler; vase or basket for flowers; seductive spices (Tabasco, ketchup, mustard, salt & pepper— whatever your heart desires)
Ambiance: Candles; flowers; music: iPod, portable speakers, or radio (check batteries beforehand); lanterns
Other picnic essentials: Corkscrew or bottle opener; lighter for the candles; hand cleaner or wipes; trash bags for clean-up afterward
Food and drink: This can be as simple or as complicated as you have time for. You can cook, order to-go, or just use items on hand in your pantry and fridge.
Remember a picnic for two gives you the chance to create an experience with the one you love in a new location. For more ideas on picnics and tablescapes check out my new book Seductive Tables For Two.
