It’s finally here! “The Hunger Games” premieres in theaters today, and it seems magazines like People and Glamour have long been just as excited about the big event as we are. Both magazines featured the sure-to-be blockbuster’s star, Jennifer Lawrence, on recent covers. And while today’s the first day of the much-anticipated onscreen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling series, the film looks like it’s going to be a runaway hit.
At the center of all the fuss is Oscar-nominated actress (for 2010′s “Winter’s Bone”) Lawrence. Hers is a serious talent, which is fortunate for serious fans of the book. After all, no one wants another terrible “Twilight” series to defend, now do we?
“It still hasn’t sunk in,” Lawrence tells People of her casting. She and the rest of the cast, including Josh Hutcherson (playing Peeta) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale), have bonded over what Lawrence says felt like “some weird summer camp.”
Lawrence says she knew she wanted to be a part of the film after meeting director Gary Ross, but the star tells Glamour, “I gave myself three days. I knew from reading the books that I loved The Hunger Games. I just didn’t know if it was worth changing my life for.”
These days, Lawrence is far more comfortable with her decision, even if looming superstardom is still daunting. But there are perks, to be sure. Says the 21-year-old, “The people who used to ignore me at parties, now they’re nice to me and kissing my a–.”
Yeah, she’s gonna make a great Katniss.
