Magazine Industry News Round-Up

  • As we mentioned last week, Newsweek and online news magazine The Daily Beast were in merger talks–well, the deal fell through. New York magazine reports the breakdown was a result of personality conflicts between Newsweek magazine owner, Sidney Harman, Barry Diller, owner The Daily Beast, and Tina Brown, The Daily Beast editor. In the end, the threesome couldn’t agree on how to share editorial and business responsibilities for a venture.
  • The buzz surrounding GQ magazine controversial cover featuring “Glee” co-stars Dianna Agron, Corey Monteith, and Lea Michele continued throughout the week and prompted Agron to address the photo spread on her personal blog. The actress wrote, “Now, in perpetuating the type of images that evoke these kind of emotions, I am sorry. If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention.”
