Looking for the motivation to get into shape this year? Fitness magazine reveals the best ways to turn excuses into results.
There is a little drive-thru restaurant here in town that we frequent more often than we should. While waiting at the window (to pick up my grilled chicken salad, of course), I see a memo from the manager that tells employees in big, bold letters: “You can have excuses or you can have results. You can’t have both.”
That little two-sentence saying applies to much more than just customer service at a restaurant. This time of year, for many people, it can apply to the desire to get into shape in the new year. Those pesky excuses can rear their ugly heads and try to keep us on the couch, but the January issue of Fitness magazine reveals how to take those excuses and turn them into real results.
- “I don’t have the energy.”
- “I bulk up too fast.”
- “I’m getting nowhere, so why bother?”
- And, my personal fall-back excuse: “I just don’t have time.”
For each of these and a few others, the folks at Fitness explain our excuses away with real action. For the other “not enough time” folks, like me, Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., explains that we don’t have to dedicate hours a day to exercise. Instead, he suggests breaking activity up into chunks throughout the day. One 10-15 minute session each morning and one after work will bring on great results. No matter the excuse, Fitness offers a way to overcome it.
