Fantasia Barrino Survives Attempted Suicide

usweekly_ali.jpgAfter an apparent overdose of aspirin and sleep aids, American Idol season three winner, Fantasia Barrino, was hospitalized late Monday night. Her manager, Brian Dickens confirmed the suicide attempt and recovery to Us Weekly magazine in a statement Tuesday.

Says Dickens, “Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time.” Dickens says his client Barrino, 26, is stable and will be released from the hospital soon.
Barrino’s suicide attempt and subsequent hospitalization came on the heels of rumors of a sex tape featuring Barrino and a married man, Antwaun Cook. The tape has apparently led Cook’s wife Paula to file for divorce.
Dickens addressed allegations that Barrino’s involvement with Cook led to their separation, saying, “Fantasia believed Mr. Cook when he told her he was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it. She knows some of the allegations… are totally false. There are others she strongly doubts. There is plenty she does not know.”
Barrino’s rep continued, “Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused. Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention.”
Still, Dickens expressed his confidence in Barrino’s ability to prevail despite these circumstances. “Fantasia is a fighter. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured. Fantasia will be stronger, smarter, and better for it.”
