Cover Controversy: Did Elle Magazine Alter Gabourey Sidibe Photo?

Elle_Gab_edit.jpgElle magazine is getting blasted for one of its 25th anniversary covers featuring actress Gabourey Sidibe. Critics are upset that Sidibe’s photo is closely cropped to show her head and shoulders, while the other actresses are seen from the waist up.

Sidibe, 27, an Oscar nominee for her role in last year’s Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was one of four actresses chosen for one of its four October covers to mark its 25th anniversary. The other women featured, as we mentioned last week are Megan Fox, Lauren Conrad and Amanda Seyfried.

Still, other critics are complaining that the magazine lightened the African-American actress’s skin.

In a statement to Yahoo, the women’s magazine said that “nothing out of the ordinary” had been done to the photo.”We have four separate covers this month and Gabby’s cover was not retouched any more or less than the others” it read.
