An easy place to find a guiding vision for your style is through television shows and films. The influence that fashion and films have on one another may sometimes go unnoticed, but don’t be mistaken—they balance each other, they play off one another and they strengthen each other.

Banana Republic’s brilliant “Mad Men” collection was filled with high-waisted skirts, silk-tie neck blouses, tailored dresses and knit sweaters. The brand collaborated with the costume designer of AMC’s “Mad Men” to create this modern take on 60s fashion.

Those who devote their Monday nights to “Gossip Girl” know Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen as fashion moguls. Blair’s style is romantic and preppy, while Serena carries an effortless, boho-chic vibe. After watching an episode, you should give one of Serena’s looks your own spin! “Gossip Girl” stylist Eric Daman is designing a capsule collection of hosiery for DKNY. These uniquely patterned tights are an essential for my wardrobe this winter season.

There are so many fabulous ways you can incorporate TV and films into your own style. Big-name designers are breathing life into past decades’ trends: Ray Ban’s Wayfarer sunglasses, high buns resembling Audrey Hepburn’s up-do in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” can be seen in Donna Karan’s ads; designers Michael Kors and Dolce and Gabbana’s last collections come with an 80’s energy. Michael Kors’ bodysuits, elegant jumpsuits and colorblocking schemes are a contemporary way to bring back the 80s to your style. Dolce and Gabbana’s fall collection was a bit more obvious in their revitalizing of fun yellow, black and white star prints, bowler hats and socks paired with heels.

Or maybe you want a more classic look. Think Audrey Hepburn because a true fashion icon is realized when 50 years of trends have evolved, but a “So Audrey Hepburn!” look is still the way to go. You can’t go wrong in a classic black dress paired with a light lip, dramatic liner and jet-black lashes.

Find a vibe you love and go with it! What film inspires you?

Moll Anderson’s Sensory Elements for the Home

The New Year is the time for changes. It is a perfect time for bringing a sensory-experience to your home. Sensory-scaping is economically friendly to those of you who are decorating on a tight budget like I was in my single-mom days! Immerse your surroundings in seductive elements that entice your senses. You perceive and discover things throughout life using your five senses; so, why not channel this commonsense approach to decorating your home as well?

Color

black & white bedroom

You can find more inspiring photos of the Seductive Modern City in my book,"The Seductive Home."

Not much can quite compare to the dramatic statement made by a sophisticated black and white room. The combination of luxurious, classy black and elegant, clean white is one that when executed with balance transforms an area into the swanky residence you’ve been wanting!

Lighting

Lighting is both a crucial and often underestimated element that can enhance the many features of your space. Go ahead and challenge yourself! Which space in your home do you consider the blandest? Linen closet, laundry room, kitchen pantry, garage? The right illumination in these seemingly boring places can help you achieve the “wow factor’ you’ve been wanting! I decided to dazzle my laundry room with a brilliant, crystal chandelier; a functional and sensual laundry room… what more can a girl ask for? Lighting can offer you rich colors of the harvest, gold and warm textures.

Texture

ostrich pillow

You can see so many flowing feather skirts and dresses on the runways, why not be inspired by them? I was!

Feathers flow, swish, bounce and grace the items they embellish. This fun pillow adorns the couch in my office! Always be on the lookout for inspiration, beauty is everywhere you just have to remember to look! Who says offices have to be boring?

Scale

When decorating my home, I decided to cater to my old Hollywood sense of style. Scale is always an important factor in achieving the balance of a well-designed room. In order to create the opulence I was hoping for, I went for oversized, leather armchairs to bring a regal energy while also offering a leisurely place to rest.

A sensual home is a place to escape to after a long day and anyone can achieve the elements for a seductive home using sensory-scaping!

What element will you bring into your home? Lighting? Scale? Texture? Color?

Moll Anderson’s New Year’s Advice: Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Zebra Chair

This chair is a fabulous addition to an office space.

There is nothing more seductive than bringing animal print to your home, so why not take a walk on the wild side this year? I’m not saying you have to go all out; just a hint is a step in the right direction!

You can transform your domestic living space for 2012 with undomesticated animal prints. Think bold like bright zebra, cheetah, giraffe or leopard. For a more subtle take choose a snakeskin, something crocodile embossed, or cowhide…the list goes on!

The timeless black and white color combination of the zebra stripe is big this season in home décor. A zebra’s white stripes are designed for camouflaging in nature; but when this animal print is used in your decorating scheme it won’t be anything less than brave. If you prefer faux there is plenty of faux zebra and as many animal prints as your heart desires.

Including a chair in your design, like the one pictured here, will enhance your living space while preserving a more sensual vibe. Using one exotic animal print such as these fabulous cheetah pillows will enliven your sexy lifestyle.

Cowhide ottoman

When used correctly, cowhide can be very sleek.

Cowhide can be very sleek and modern and it’s not just for the Southwestern-style home. Don’t be afraid to take risks, I promise they’ll pay off! Your home should be a reflection of who you are and the seductive life you desire.

How will you incorporate animal print into your home this year?

Moll Anderson’s Inspiration for a New Home, New Year and New You

Moll Anderson Vision Board

This vision board is a great example! Although it's not my personal board, it's a perfect jumping off point for anyone.

This year I challenge you to NOT make a New Year’s resolution. I can’t count the many resolutions I’ve made over the years and haven’t kept. Goals are important and believing in your goals is even better! So this year stay focused on your goals and make your vision your mission by creating a vision board to hang in your home or office!

This is also a great project to do with kids or as a family. Not only does it encourage them to become inspired and dream, but it also teaches them the importance of setting goals, working hard to achieve them and believing in themselves!

So, how exactly do you create a vision board? Your vision board is only a few simple steps away.

Close your eyes and envision yourself in your “perfect world.” Mine, for example, is a very seductive world! Maybe you see more money, a beautiful house, a new car, a vacation destination, or simply more time for yourself or with the ones you love the most. What is it that you truly desire and need from life?

Magazine Inspiration for Vision Board

Everything seen on the vision board is from these magazines!

Now look through photographs, magazines, books, websites and blogs. Cut out, collect or print anything that is important to you and inspires you, and anything you dream about having. You could even include a list of your goals (work and personal) and motivating quotes. Fill the board with the visions for your future by gluing your items on to a piece of foam core or maybe even poster board in an inspirational color.

Once your vision board dries, it is ready to be hung on your wall. You can even turn it into a piece of art by framing it, but the important thing is to make sure it is in a place where you can always see it. I keep mine in my closet so that I can see my goals every day and remember to never give up! I can promise, if you really take the time and effort to create your vision board—you will find yourself working towards those goals more and more. Before you know it—you’ll be living your most seductive life!

Now is the time to make your vision your mission!

You’re in the perfect place for inspiration—Magazines.com has thousands of titles to help you create your vision board.

Moll Anderson Introduces Mood Lighting for the Holidays

Let’s get electric this week! Lighting is one of my five must-haves because it can transform your life into a seductive life—lighting affects us on a primal level. They don’t call it mood lighting for nothing! You can change the feel of a room with a flip of a switch or the strike of a match.

Laundry room lighting

Shown here is my "Old World" laundry room. You can see that lighting makes all the difference.

One of the quickest and best investments you can make for altering your private atmosphere is a dimmer switch. I put dimmer switches in every room possible, even the laundry room. I transform that room into a coatroom for parties simply by putting a collapsible clothes rack and lowering the lights. This easy trick will be a treat to enjoy year-round, but it will also be the perfect tool to create glowing rooms for holiday gatherings throughout the upcoming months. By simply installing a dimmer switch, you will be able to soften the lights instantly, adding drama and intimacy to a room not to mention quickly changing the ambiance of your entire life!

Life is not just boring black and white. The interesting things are in the gray areas that we live in on a daily basis, and the same goes for lighting! Dimmer switches are a simple way to add a little middle ground between off and on and bring some life to your lighting. Softer light is much sexier and flattering, and it can add some rich tones to a not-so-exciting room.

Below is an easy step-by-step way to install a dimmer switch that takes no time (even for the DIY-impaired). Let the ambiance begin!

How-To Install a Dimmer Switch

Note: Dimmer switches come in four popular varieties: slide, dial, touchpad, and switch/slide combo. It is important to read the directions for your particular device, but this general how-to guide will show you just how easy it really is to make a dramatic change in your space.

Materials: Dimmer switch kit, screwdriver, wire-cutters or wire-strippers, cordless drill and screwdriver attachment, needle-nose pliers, circuit tester

Safety First: Be sure the power to the circuit you are working on is turned off at the main breaker box or fuse panel. Breakers: Find the right breaker in the breaker box and flip it to the “off” position. Fuses: If you have a fuse box, find the right fuse and remove it completely from the panel. Test to make sure the power to the circuit has been disconnected by simply flipping the switch to the “on” position and have the lights turned off. (Once the switch plate is removed, you need to double-check that the circuit is disconnected by testing the wires with a circuit tester.)

Step 1: Use a screwdriver or a reversible cordless drill with a screwdriver attachment to remove the old switch plate.

Step 2: Remove the switch from the exposed workbox by unscrewing the screws at the bottom of the switch. (This is the step in which you should double-check that the circuit is off with a circuit tester.)

Candle light

This waxy candle is actually a light set on a dimmer switch.

Step 3: Disconnect the wires that are attached to the light switch. There should be three wires: black, white and green (it may be a bare copper wire in some cases).

Step 4: Use the wire cutters to cut the three exposed wires just below their plastic coverings. Strip the wire about 3/8” using the wire-cutters or a wire-stripper (this tool makes the job of stripping much easier, but isn’t necessary).

Step 5: Connect the black wire in the existing box to the black wire on the new dimmer switch by placing the two exposed wires next to each other and twisting on a wire nut (make sure that the bare wire is completely encased in the wire nut). Do the same for the white wires and the ground wires (green or brass) as well.

Step 6: Bend the wires in a zigzag pattern so that they easily fit back into the workbox. Push the switch into place and adjust it so that it’s straight, and the orientation of the switch is correct (up is “on” and down is “off”). Tighten the two screws to hold it in position.

Step 7: Install the new switch plate by tightening the provided plate screws.

Step 8: Switch the breaker box back on or reinstall the fuse.

Candle light by dimmer switch

These candles are also set on a dimmer switch.

Step 9: Test out your new dimmer switch to make sure that the installation was a success and enjoy!

Note: If the switch does not work, turn off your breaker or fuse again and double-check your wiring. Check that black is with black, white is with white, etc. (Also be sure that the wire nuts are tight and secure.)

Now that you’ve got these simple steps, go ahead and start living your most seductive life!

Moll Anderson Helps You Build a Seductive Hostess Wardrobe

Michael Kors Gold Metallic Jeans

I love these fun jeans and I've been seeing them everywhere!

Tis the season for becoming the ultimate seductive hostess! I know it sounds too good to be true, right? Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s easier than you think. I promise that if you follow my simple party-ready advice, you will never stand in front of your closet again before a party and say, “I have nothing to wear!”

You simply need to become party ready at all times with absolutely no stress for the entire year. A seductive hostess is always prepared for absolutely anything because you’ll always have on hand a few fail-safe, stunning cocktail outfits to fit any level of entertaining. Whether it’s a Christmas party, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa gatherings or just about any kind of get-together thrown your way.

Daring red tops, sparkly skirts, shimmering shoes, and festive dresses are a must to celebrate this merry time. As always, don’t procrastinate. That’s a drama builder! There is nothing worse than waiting until the last minute to figure out what you’ll be wearing. So here are a few of my personal favorites. Think simple metallic flats or a favorite pair of Louboutin’s. Everywhere you look you’ll find gorgeous shoes at all different price points. Be inspired by the ones in the catalog that are pricey and then seek out affordable look-alikes. For comfortable easy entertaining, how about slipping into jeans and a fabulous sequin top? I adore all the metallic jeans sold everywhere and they look great with a simple, black blouse, flats or pumps. Always have a little black dress that you look and feel terrific in. You can dress it up or down in seconds with your jewelry.

Gold sparkling top

A sparkling top and flats are great when paired with trousers, jeans or a skirt!

Hair should always be pulled away from your face—think chignon. Go for a high ponytail—it’s easy, sophisticated and it keeps hair out of the way (it also takes a few years off any seasoned hostess).

You need to actually enjoy entertaining this holiday season. Let go and become a seductive hostess who exudes joy and welcoming warmth as you share your home with friends and family.
